Demo v1.0.0

About Botani

Botani is a demo application developed as part of a portfolio project. Its purpose is to demonstrate different aspects of modern web application development, including deployment, hosting, backend and frontend integration, database management, and user interface design.

Project Purpose

Botani allows users to create and manage their own digital plant collection. Plant information can be entered through forms and stored in a structured database, making it easier to organize and access information about individual plants.

The project demonstrates how a web application can combine a database, backend logic, frontend components, file uploads, geolocation features, and a responsive user interface.

Current Features

  • ✓ Create, edit, and delete plants
  • ✓ Add titles and descriptions
  • ✓ Upload plant photos
  • ✓ Add useful website links
  • ✓ Add care instructions and Markdown articles
  • ✓ Set a plant location using geolocation or a map
  • ✓ Track plant progress with status values
  • ✓ Filter plants by status on the overview page

Work in Progress

Botani is still a work in progress. Features, visual elements, database structures, and the overall application concept may change at any time during development.

This demo application is intended for testing and demonstration purposes only. It should not be used in a productive environment. Data may be lost, and information entered into the application may not be sufficiently protected for real-world use.

Planned Features

  • + Multiple photos and plant galleries
  • + Notes, tags, categories, and plant collections
  • + Additional attachments such as PDF files
  • + Improved geolocation and mapping features
  • + Insects, animals, and ecological relationships
  • + Plant diseases, pests, and beneficial organisms
  • + Information about soil, climate, and environmental conditions

Future Vision

In the future, Botani could be expanded with dashboards, statistics, reminders for watering, fertilizing, and repotting, as well as a database seeder containing common houseplants with pre-filled information.

Further ideas include plant identification tools with estimated match probabilities, safety information, and warnings about potentially confusing species. The application could also provide weather forecasts, information about invasive species, compatibility between plants, and a Friends and Enemies feature to show which plants grow well together.

Possible integrations include Home Assistant for time-based automation, such as automated watering systems. The Ecology section could also be expanded into a broader knowledge base covering plant interactions, habitats, environmental requirements, and biodiversity.
